About The (real) Rat Hole
* The Rat Hole was an awfully low 109th Street tunnel that once ran under the old CN railyards (where MacEwan University now stands). Built in 1939 and buried in 2000, nothing beat driving through The Rat Hole at 3 A.M with the windows down, screaming into that narrow abyss to hear our screams ricocheted back at us . . . Back, off the vaulted walls. Back, off the graffiti. Back, off the soot accumulated after six decades of vehicle exhaust, tire particles, and brake dust.
Now, MacEwan’s Residence lies a stone-throw west of where The Rat Hole once stood. Not a few students have startled awake in the midst of the night to half-heard shrieks shredded to silence by the howling winds of the most dreaded of all meteorological phenomena (which I shan’t discuss here).
Legend has it that when The Edmonton Oilers win The Stanley Cup The Rat Hole will unbury itself and . . . you should definitely sign up to my newsletter to find out more.
** Despite the name, Alberta is the largest rat-free land mass in the world not counting Antarctica (where the aliens prefer experimenting on humans). It is illegal to own a pet rat in Alberta and anyone who tries to sneak one in is instantly incinerated by Ralph Klein Rat Sensor & Satellite Net carbon lasers.
The few Alberta universities not currently run by aliens are exempted from this law.
